As autumn settles in, nature is gradually unveiling its annual spectacle of vibrant fall colors in Traverse City. In some spots around the region, the leaves are transitioning from their summery greens to a subtle palette of yellows and oranges, some even showcasing a dash of fiery red.
The coming weeks hold the promise of a more vibrant display as temperatures continue to change. The anticipation of witnessing the full glory of fall foliage is building, and soon, the trees will be ablaze with the brilliant colors of red, orange, and yellow. Stay tuned as nature prepares to dazzle us with its seasonal masterpiece.
What we are seeing right now:
Where you should go:
- When traveling through downtown Traverse City, you can see some color along the shores of the Grand Traverse Bay and by Clinch Marina.
- Take a colorful scenic drive along M-22 in Leelanau County, or take a drive along M37 on the Old Mission Peninsula. Make sure to stop by a Traverse Wine Coast winery to take it all in.
- The color continues throughout the small neighborhoods surrounding the downtown area. We suggest traveling south on Cass Street or Union Street so you can turn down a side street to see the colors and maybe catch some fun Halloween decorations.
- Make a stop by the grounds of the beautiful Village at the Grand Traverse Commons, where you can grab a coffee or glass of wine, walk around the local shops, or have a delicious meal at one of their many restaurants.
- Part of the TART Trails network on the south end of downtown Traverse City, the Boardman Lake Loop Trail is a four-mile trail with access to local businesses like Oryana, the Filling Station, and Right Brain Brewery.
- Make your way to Thompsonville in Benzie County to Crystal Mountain Resort & Spa where they report their fall color updates every Friday on their social media. See the current update below! BONUS: Chairlift rides are open weekends in October and are the perfect way to see fall foliage on full display when you get to the top of the hill.
