Fall Day Trip from Kelowna to Peachland

Want to plan a fun fall day trip without straying too far from Kelowna? Peachland is the perfect mix of beauty, excitement, and relaxation. Here are a few things I would recommend checking out while you are there.

Start your day at Hardy Falls Regional Park

Deep Creek (Hardy Falls Regional Park) sits across from Okanagan Lake and is a must-see during the fall months while the leaves are changing. It is a short (1km in length) walk for people of all ages and experiences and is kept well maintained for strollers and wheelchairs. As you make your way to the beautiful waterfall at the end, there are eight different foot bridges you will cross where you can stop to see the spawning salmon. They turn a vibrant red colour at this time of year, when they are ready to lay and fertilize their eggs. There are salmon ladders that have been installed into the creek bed, so you can watch them jump from the observation platforms. Be sure not to disturb the fish during the spawning process and be wary of bears that may be in the area at this time of year.

Once done walking along the creek, head across the highway to nearby Antler’s Beach, which gets its name from the antler-shaped rock formations found along the shore. It is a popular spot for photographers due to its picturesque scenery, with a picnic area and a small dock that is great for launching your kayak/paddleboard from in the summer months.

Fuel up at Bliss Bakery and Walk the Waterfront

Afterwards, take a trip over to Bliss Bakery & Bistro to grab a coffee and fuel up for the rest of the day. They are located on Beach Ave and offer a beautiful view of the lake. In addition to their delicious baked goods, they have soups, sandwiches, wraps and salads – all made from natural, pure ingredients with no added chemicals. They are very environmentally conscious and even offer a discount to customers who bring in their own reusable coffee mug. They are open seven days a week from 7:30am to 5:00pm.

Take your coffee to go and head over to the waterfront for a stroll down The Beach Avenue Walk (also know as Centennial Way). It is an 8km paved pathway that runs along Okanagan Lake. It is a great way to see what Peachland has to offer and it can be enjoyed at any time of year. There are plenty of beaches and picnic tables along the way, so you can stop for a rest or to take in the scenery. In 2019 the Ray Kandola Heritage Pier was opened on the south end of the walk. The 120-metre pier adds accessibility to an area of the waterfront that was previously unusable. It is also known to be a great fishing spot.

Hike for Incredible Views at Pincushion Mountain

Next up – Get that heart pumping with a hike up at Pincushion Mountain. It is a moderately challenging route (4km up and down) and it takes about 40-60 minutes to reach the top. It is a steady climb but there are several stops and views along the way. Hiking boots and a walking stick are advisable, but not necessary. Be sure to follow the red signs on the trees as there are small animal trails which are connected that could lead you astray.

On your way back to Kelowna, stop at 19 Okanagan Grill + Bar

19 Okanagan Grill + Bar is the perfect dinner spot to unwind at after a busy day and is conveniently located in West Kelowna on your way back from your Peachland day trip. Their goal is to support local farmers, winemakers, and businesses who follow the same quality-first mindset. They have an extensive food and drink menu with options for people with all dietary restrictions, and a beautiful atmosphere overlooking Two Eagles Golf Course. If you are ever heading towards Summerland, they also own 19 Bistro which is located at Fitzpatrick Winery.

Whether you are a Kelowna local or an out-of-town visitor, there is something for everyone to see in Peachland. After a fun-filled day, it is time to head back home and dream about your next fall adventure!
