Celebrating Local Excellence – Brecon Beacons Tourism

This weekend, Abergavenny Food Festival promises a feast of flavours, with Brecon Beacons Tourism members showcasing some of the best artisanal food and drink in Wales.

One of the stars is the award-winning Black Mountains Smokery, fresh from its triumph at the Great Taste Golden Forks 2024, where it brought home the coveted Golden Fork to Wales.

Black Mountains Smokery: A Golden Fork Winner

At the Great Taste awards ceremony in London’s Battersea Arts Centre, Black Mountains Smokery’s smoked duck breast was crowned the best in the UK. The judges were impressed by its perfect balance of smoke and flavour, calling it “absolutely incredible” and praising its velvet-like texture. This family-run business, based in Crickhowell, sources high-quality British ingredients and cures and smokes them traditionally in their smokehouse. Their dedication to quality and tradition clearly paid off, making this dish a standout among the nearly 14,000 entries this year.

Black Mountains Smokery is committed to celebrating our region’s rich food heritage, and this latest accolade solidifies their reputation as one of Wales’ finest gourmet producers.

The Tap Room Menu Conundrum

Also featured this weekend is Adrian Morales Maillo, the founder of Sobremesa Drinks Adrian, originally from Spain, now crafts farmhouse beers and natural ciders in Bannau Brycheiniog, taking inspiration from the local terroir. At The Tap Room Menu Conundrum on Friday evening, he’ll be teaming up with James Swift, the award-winning charcutier behind Trealy Farm Charcuterie. Together, they’ll tackle the delicious dilemma of pairing Adrian’s farmhouse brews with James’ artisanal charcuterie – a challenge that festival-goers can help solve.

With guidance from Pete Brown, a four-time winner of Britain’s Beer Writer of the Year, this promises to be an interactive and flavour-packed experience.

Felin Fach Griffin

The culinary journey doesn’t end there.
